Welcome to Live Oak Meadow

Continue north on the trail from Kingsbury Commons and you will find Live Oak Meadow. This area of Pease Park offers both wide open spaces and shaded areas covered by beautiful oak trees.

The large oak tree in the photo shown here is a favorite for tree climbers of all ages, as well as for photographers as a beautiful, natural backdrop.

Live Oak Meadow is the perfect place to host a quiet picnic, to enjoy your yoga practice, to take a nap under a tree, or to read a book on a park bench.

Access to Shoal Creek

Live Oak Meadow provides Pease Park’s best access to Shoal Creek. There are a couple of low water access points where you can step across rocks in the creek if the water is low enough, whether you are coming from the park or from Lamar Blvd.

the Swales

Swales are intentionally maintained in a couple of places in Live Oak Meadow. These are shallow, broad, and vegetated channels designed to store and convey runoff and remove pollutants. Plants and grasses are allowed to grow in these areas to help prevent flooding and excessive runoff. These areas are mowed a couple of times each year, but are generally allowed to grow tall as a part of our ecological sustainability plan for the park.

During the spring, wildflowers that serve as a food source and habitat for pollinators and wildlife can be found in these swales.

Visiting by Foot or Bike

Visitors coming to Live Oak Meadow by foot or by bike can access this area of the park from Kingsbury Commons to the south, or Wooten Woods or Lamar Blvd. from the north. Images of those access points can be found here.
